Travel Insurance UK

Travel insurance should be an important consideration if you are a regular traveller or are planning a trip abroad in the near future.

Some tour operators and travel agents require you to have travel insurance before booking a holiday through them. Many agents offer their own insurance, but this is not always the most competitive or comprehensive option.

Travel agents often charge two or three times as much as specialist travel insurers and the cover they offer is often less wide-ranging.

It is worthwhile tracking down a provider to match your individual needs.

A good travel insurance policy should include:

  • Cover if you have to cancel your trip or come home early.
  • Cover for personal injury or illness sustained whilst on holiday.
  • Cover for items stolen or lost whilst you are away.
  • Cover for third party accident liability.

If you make more than two trips abroad each year, it is more cost effective to take out an annual travel insurance policy. An annual policy allows you to make unlimited trips during the year. Most annual policies cover individual trips which are up to 90 days in duration so if you are planning a longer holiday, you will need to seek specialist cover.
